[Gettysburg]. Bible Taken from a Dead Confederate Soldier after the Battle of Gettysburg. This 3.5" x 5.5" pocket Bible was picked up on the battlefield by a man named John Sammons, who has noted the event inside the front cover. The former owner, H.C. Caldwell, has written his name at the upper edge of the front cover. Caldwell could be Henry C. Caldwell, 10th Alabama, or Henry C. Caldwell, 7th Louisiana Infantry (Tigers). Both regiments were active during the Battle of Gettysburg. The book is heavily worn and the spine is cracked.

The lot includes a museum catalog record from Heritage Inns, Inc., dated May 1982, with a note from cataloguer Mike Nesbitt stating: "Pocket Testament, purportedly taken from a dead Confederate soldier found on the Battlefield of Gettysburg."
