[Confederate States of America]: Alabama Ordinance of Secession Lithograph. 14" x 17" lithographed print titled "An Ordinance To Dissolve the Union between the State of Alabama and other states united under the compact styled 'The Constitution of the United States of America.'" Printed by A. Hoen & Company of Baltimore. The print is an accurate copy of the original engrossed document. The ordinance was passed in convention at Montgomery on January 11, 1861. That city served as the first capital of the Confederate States of America, prior to the move to Richmond. Very likely, this print was made shortly after the convention and prior to the outbreak of hostilities. Maryland was partial to the South and would have joined her sister states had an election been held deciding the question. A great deal of printed material emanated from Baltimore, much of it favorable to the Confederates. Normal folds and light toning, professionally mounted on rice paper. A significant rarity... the first we have offered.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
