Bound in later half brown calf over marbled boards, spine in compartments with five raised bands and red and black morocco lettering labels stamped in gilt. Speckled edges. Scattered areas of light foxing throughout.

    "The preface by General Thomas Jordan, Chief of Staff, states that various orders of the 1864 series are included, though not indexed, because of their immediate importance to the army" (Eberstadt). Harwell quotes from the Southern Literary Messenger's Review: "The work is very handsomely executed, and we recommend it to the public and to the officers of the army especially, as a most valuable publication."
