    Description

[Civil War] The Daily Picayune Newspaper. Vol. 26, No. 119, four pages, 16.5" x 22", New Orleans, June 13, 1862. Printed after the fall of New Orleans. Articles featured include the evacuation and occupation of Corinth, Mississippi, following the First Battle of Corinth, scattered references to Gens. Stonewall Jackson, Richard Ewell, William T. Sherman, Henry Halleck, et. al, news from Europe and Asia, period advertisements (including one for P. T. Barnum's museum offering "$1000 for the smallest baby"), city news, and others.

One article of interest is entitled "Modern War" and discusses the destructiveness of modern weaponry and dismisses the misconception of the ever-present Civil War bayonet charge. The paper also asserts, "We believe that the use of this weapon on a large scale, in the charge of large bodies of men, has been equally rare in the great battles of Europe."

Some foxing and toning is present, but the document is in very fine condition.
