[Civil War] The Daily Picayune Newspaper. Vol. 26, No. 77, four pages, 16.5" x 22", New Orleans, April 25, 1862. Published on the day that Flag Officer David G. Farragut sailed into the city of New Orleans.

There is printed on the front page a letter dated April 9 that gives a detailed account from the Washington Artillery's perspective of the Battle of Shiloh which the editors believe gives "in some respects the best account of the fight we have yet had..."

Also contains various war happenings from around the country including the shelling of Columbia, deserters from the Federal Army joining the Confederate Armies at Richmond, continued fighting in Tennessee and others, and period advertisements. Heavily foxed and toned; staining toward the bottom of the pages, but does not affect the text. Horizontal fold crease is weak and torn at the intersection of the vertical fold crease. Very good condition.
