    Description

[Civil War]. Printed Circular Letter to Texas Veterans and Their Widows from the law offices of Stewart & Habicht. One printed sheet, 5.5" x 10.5". Austin, April 1, 1883. A notice that a bill granting "a pension of $150 a year, beginning January 1, 1883... to veterans and their widows who have not property exceeding $1000 in value." Stewart & Habicht make the argument that because they "laboured most zealously to secure its passage... We claim to be better skilled in the preparation of claims for veterans and in hunting up evidence than any attorneys here..." A letter of endorsement from Frank W. Johnson, President Board of Veterans and President Texas Veterans Association; and William L. Hunter and A. Defenbaugh of the Board of Veterans, is printed at bottom.
Condition: Toning, with occasional foxing. A few small tears and tiny chips, and three wormholes affecting a few letters.
