[Civil War - Pierre G.T. Beauregard]. Special Orders Issued to General D.H. Hill to Join General Beauregard's Forces at Charleston. One partially-printed page, 8" x 10", on Adjutant and Inspector General's Office letterhead, Richmond, December 24, 1864. Two months before these orders were issued, Confederate Gen. Pierre G.T. Beauregard was placed in command of the newly formed Department of the West, overseeing all military operations in states from Georgia to the Mississippi River. Unable to halt Sherman's advances in Georgia, Savannah fell into Union hands on December 21. Sherman then steered his army north toward South Carolina - and Charleston. This extract from Special Orders No. 305 orders "Major Genl D.H. Hill . . . [to] report without delay to Genl. G.T. Beauregard . . . for assignment to duty at or near Charleston, S.C." Charleston remained in Confederate hands for another seven weeks, but finally surrendered to Sherman on February 18, 1865. Docketed on the verso. A pencil notation reading, "At last!!! / G.T.B.," is not in the hand of Beauregard. With a 9" x 11.5" engraved portrait of Beauregard.

Condition: Lower right corner is cut at an angle. Mounting remnants on the verso. Folds show separation at the right edge with some minor paper loss along the lower horizontal fold.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
