    Description

[Civil War Dead]. L.B. Fisk Ledger. Spanning the month of April 1867, beginning on April 3 with the final entry dated April 22, Fisk has kept a record of dead soldiers from around an area in the state of Kentucky. Each page, of which there are forty-three, notes whether the dead are "Identified" or "Unknown" with a total number for a given location. Fisk is working under the guidance of a Major Whitman, A.G.M., and they primarily focus on the bodies of soldiers killed during the Civil War, but he mentions the bodies of regular citizens as well. He notes the exact location of the graves and any identifying landmarks in the surrounding landscape. Of those bodies that are identified he lists their names; company and regiment, if applicable; and date of death, if known. The text, which is in pencil, is faded in places. Located within a 4.25" x 7.75" leather notebook which shows some light wear.
