[Civil War] Bill Granting a Special Copyright to William J. Hardee. One page, 6" x 9.5", on brown paper, Washington, December 24, 1863. House bill from the Confederate House of Representatives which authorized a copyright for the book titled "Hardee's Rifle and Infantry Tactics" by William Hardee and S. H Goetzel, the first drill instruction manual of the Civil War. The book was published in 1855 at the request of them U. S. Secretary of War Jefferson Davis. Edges are untrimmed and the print is slightly faded, but still entirely legible. Very fine condition.

William J. Hardee (1815-1873) was a West Point graduate that served during the Seminole and Mexican-American Wars. When his native state of Georgia seceded, he resigned his commission in the U. S. Army and joined the Confederacy. He was present at the Battles of Shiloh and Bentonville, among others. Following the war, he became president of the Selma and Meridian Railroad and co-authored the book The Irish in America.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
