[Civil War] Anti-Amalgamationist, Supplementary to the National Union Periodical. Vol. 1, No. 2, four pages, 9" x 11.75", Philadelphia, August, 1838. The Anti-Amalgamationist was an anti-abolitionist newspaper which featured articles arguing against the liberation of the slaves and the intermingling of the races.

One article on page two hints at the possible breakup of the Union when it says, "The existence and preservation of the federal Union of these United States, should be the paramount object of every citizen..." It continues by saying, "Among the various sources capable of contributing to the ruin or injury of our national institutions, the most active, and therefore reprehensible, is the advocacy of the doctrine of ABOLITION."

It also features a reprint of a circular by prominent abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison and a rebuttal by the editors of the paper. Heavily toned with tears along the vertical and horizontal creases that are repaired with tape, affecting some of the text. The two other fold creases are present and a weak with tearing at the top and bottom edges; otherwise, good condition.
