    Description

[Civil War] and [Battle of Winchester]. Report by Chaplain of the 5th Connecticut Volunteers. Seven pages, 5" x 8", Hartford, June 7, 1862. The chaplain uses an extract from a letter by one of the officers of the regiment to explain the battle, in part:
"On Saturday, the 25th of May, the regiment started about sunrise 5 miles south of Strasburg for Winchester...The train having been attacked...the men were ordered to leave their knapsacks...and procede [sic] to the threatened point. These knapsacks were subsequently captured, and...the regiment were without blankets and the ordinary conveniences...In this condition the regiment lay down in a clover field on the Front Royal road...About 5. o_clock in the morning the fireing [sic] from the enemy began, and the shells fell upon the brigade...the regiment was at once put in position..." A wonderful testament to the bravery of the soldiers that suffered through a horrific war. With envelope. Folds. Text is fading slightly, but still legible. Fine.

    More Information:

"Lo this first brigade of three regiments...were nine opposed by the Enemy, but there was no retreat of the ground for three hours, and not then till an order to retreat came from Genl_ Banks." He applauds the bravery of the Connecticut men: "In this fierce fight with vastly superior odds, the 5th Connecticut were...all that could be asked or desired...they escaped with comparatively slight loss, it was not so with the enemy that opposed them."

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
