[Civil War] and [Battle of Perryville]. Period Fair Copy of the Report of the Battle by Confederate General Leonidas Polk in a Secretarial Hand. Eight pages, 8.25" x 13", Knoxville [Tennessee], November 1862. Polk submits his "Official Report of the Battle of Perryville" one month after the battle. Fought on October 8, 1862, for control of the border state of Kentucky, Perryville was one of the bloodiest battles of the war. A tactical victory for the South, strategically it is considered a Union victory as the Confederate force retired to Tennessee and left Kentucky in the Union for the remainder of the war.

After maneuvering their troops into position in the days preceding the battle, the general officers met "...about daylight [October 8]..." and "...resolved, in view of the great disparity of our forces, to adopt the 'defensive, offensive'; to await the movements of the enemy & to be guided by events as they were developed." Battle was first joined by Gen. Wharton's men, Polk praising the charge as " of the most heroic & brilliant movements of the war." Polk, commanding the right wing, describes his part directing the battle: "[The] Veteran Brigade...closed the operations of the day in that part of the field with a succession of the most deadly volleys I have witnessed. The enemy's command in their immediate front was well night annihilated....darkness closing in, I ordered the troops to cease firing & to bivouac for the night."

He closes by thanking his commanders, men, and God. Folds; pages are attached by a piece of twine along the upper edge. Lightly toned at the folds.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
