[Charles I]. Letters Patent to William Trumbull with Full Seal. One vellum page, approximately 31" x 27", [London], March 28, 1629. William Trumbull (circa 1565-1635), a former English ambassador to the Archduke Albert of Austria (r. 1598-1621), regent of the Hapsburg Netherlands, was, in 1629, a clerk of the Privy Council specializing in the affairs of the English navy. He was granted the "...Park of Easthampstead, Berkshire, with land and woods adjoining..." with the understanding that he maintain a deer-park for the pleasure of the king "...upon the yearly payment of 40s." Beautifully illustrated by hand along the upper edge, including a portrait of Charles I.

Attached to the lower edge of the document is the nearly complete Great Seal of Charles I, measuring 6" in diameter. Charles is featured on the obverse sitting upon the throne of England, holding a sceptre and globus cruciger. Directly above his head is the armorial of the House of Stuart. Upon his right and left sit the heraldic animals of England (Lion) and Scotland (Unicorn), each holding a staff bearing the flag of their country. On the reverse, Charles is pictured in full armor astride a horse; right arm raised and bearing a sword, left at his side holding a shield. Below the horse is a small dog. Only the slightest cracking and chipping is evident. An exquisite example.

Condition: Slight wrinkling with some light soiling, especially along the margins.
