[Battle of Gettysburg]. Secretarial Copy of a Thomas H. Ruger Letter Confirming the Accuracy of Gettysburg Maps and related documents. Two integral pages, 8" x 10.5", Atlanta, June 24, 1878, to John B. Bachelder, in part: "I have received from the Chief of Engineers of the Army General Humphreys, a set of the 'Gettysburg Maps' prepared by you and find the positions and movements of the 1st Division 12th Corps, which I commanded, indicated on the maps with remarkable accuracy. The indications as to other subdivisions of whose movements I have knowledge are also correct." Folds with light toning.

With a twelve page printed circular, 5.75" x 9", March 4, 1878, regarding "...the data from which the positions of the troops were added to the engineer maps of the Gettysburg battle-field, recently published." Printed by the Senate and bound with twine at the left edge. Also a printed letter from Bachelder requesting the help in contacting Congress urging them to pass a bill so that "...a book be compiled and published for distribution embodying the knowledge by which [Bachelder] was able to locate the troops." Both documents are toned with folds. With the original transmittal envelope.
