Invitation to Dedication of a Gettysburg Monument

[Battle of Gettysburg]. Printed Invitation to Dedication of a Gettysburg Monument. One partially printed page, 4.75" x 3". Addressed to General Thomas H. Ruger (1833-1907), who led troops at Gettysburg and was breveted brigadier general for his actions there, the invitation reads: "You are respectfully invited to attend the ceremony of the dedication of the monument in the Soldiers National Cemetery at Gettysburg, July 1st 1869." Signed in print by five members of the Committee of the Board of Commissioners. Line of toning extending vertically through the middle, else fine.

With a four integral page printed letter, 5.5" x 9.25", also addressed to Ruger inviting him to a "...reunion of the officers of your Brigade, Division, Corps and Army..." held by the "Gettysburg Battle-field Memorial Association" whose object " to perpetuate the history of the Battle in its simple truth and to that end to make the Battle-field its own interpreter. It seeks to preserve this an enduring historical memorial...and an ever eloquent though silent exponent...of the Battle of Gettysburg." Each page shows similar vertical strips of toning. With original transmittal envelope.
