[Battle of Corinth]. Report of Captain George Augustus Williams, Chief of Artillery, 1st U.S. Army, Regarding the Batteries and Fortifications Around Corinth, Mississippi. Two integral pages, 7.75" x 10", Corinth, Mississippi, September 5, 1862, to the Assistant Adjutant General, Corinth, Mississippi. As Chief of Artillery, Captain Williams provides a report of the type and number of artillery pieces for each of the batteries A through F, and further gives a critique of the fortifications inhabited by each battery. The batteries inventory included howitzers, cannon, long-range rifled guns, and Parrott guns. Captain Williams also details instructions he gave to each battery commander to improve fields of fire. A fine, legible letter, with the usual fold creases.
