[Antonio López de Santa Anna]. Jose Justo Corro and Jose Maria Tornel. "Decree of the Congreso General." One page with integral blank, 8" x 11.75", in Spanish, Mexico, May 20, 1836. This printed document, prepared one month after Santa Anna's defeat at the Battle of San Jacinto and his subsequent capture by Texas forces, pledges every effort to secure the release of Santa Anna adding that any promises he has or will make as a prisoner will not be honored by the government of Mexico. Housed in a brown cloth chemise and matching quarter-bound slipcase of brown cloth and leather with titles in gilt on the spine. Light wrinkling with two small stains at the left margin.

Reference: Streeter 879 (locating only his copy, though others have surfaced): "This law was passed the day after the capture of Santa Anna [at San Jacinto] had been announced. . . . On the same day the president declared a national state of mourning to continue while Santa Anna was a prisoner." Eberstadt 162:705.
