[Adrián Woll]. Manuscript Report to General José de Urrea. One page, 8.5' x 12", in Spanish, Matamoros, October 8, 1836. Following Santa Anna's defeat and capture at the Battle of San Jacinto in April 1836, Gen. Sam Houston had him order Gen. Vicente Filisola to pull all Mexican troops back over the Rio Grande River. The order was obeyed and, though the Mexican Army was in retreat, it still found opportunities to harass "the enemy." Written to Gen. José de Urrea, Gen. Adrián Woll reports on the outcome of such an action. In part:

"With respect to the question that you were kind enough to ask me in your notes of the 1st...regarding the request I made to General Don Joaquin Ramirez and Your Excellency after we crossed the Guadalupe River, for you to give me the preferred companies and the Cavalries of the Division sent to the General for the purpose of pursuing the enemy that was in a hasty retreat between the Guadalupe and Colorado Rivers. I am pleased to state...that General Don Joaquin Ramirez was the one who [illegible due to damage] reason only being unaware of the...strength of the enemy and the locations of the land. For this reason I am reproducing for Your Excellency the assurance of my respect and consideration."

Uneven edges. Damage along the horizontal fold with staining and separation, resulting in loss of paper and text. Text along the center fold is faded, most of it remaining legible. Wrinkling of the left margin.
