Original Folder of Negatives Showing Japanese Surrender Aboard the U.S.S. Missouri.
6.5" x 11.25" leatherette binder containing large format negatives (5" x 4"), including one smaller format, in nineteen individual sleeves, all dated September 2, 1945, some sleeves containing two negatives, chronicling the ceremonies attendant upon the signing of the Instrument of Surrender by the Japanese representatives formally ending WW II. Each sleeve has a typed caption describing the subject depicted. While a few of these have been published, the majority are not familiar. One is labeled "too thin to print". In addition, there are two more that are faint. The others, we presume, are serviceable. We count 24 negatives with 5 duplicates. Taken by a navy photographer , eyewitness to the event. Sold with four military press photos (three of General George Patton and one showing General MacArthur officiating over the signing of the Instrument of Surrender).
