Description
Dwight D. Eisenhower: Personally-Used, Four-Star General's Collar or Shoulder-Strap Insignia Donated by the Supreme Allied Commander in 1944 With Marvelous Provenance from Ike Himself.Double-matted display highlighted by a silver four-star general's insignia, owned and used by Dwight Eisenhower in 1944. It is accompanied by letters from Ike and Mamie related to the insignia which was given away as a prize to the person who sold the most war bonds during the duration of the promotion. The letter from Eisenhower, written on "Allied Expeditionary Force Office of the Supreme Commander" letterhead is signed "Dwight D. Eisenhower/ General, U.S.A./ France, 1944." Addressed to "An American Citizen", Ike talks about the contest and the insignia. "I have worn this set of insignia frequently during both the Mediterranean and European campaigns. I am delighted to send it, as a token of my appreciation, to an American citizen, who is supporting the war effort through liberal purchase of bonds." Some discoloration with tape stains and internal tears, barely affecting the bold signature and inscription. This promotion was part of the Sixth War Loan Drive. The TLS from Mrs. Eisenhower, dated February 12, 1945, references the insignia and the importance of war bonds to finish the work at hand and "... press home the advantage we have won at great cost in lives, arms and equipment." Sold together with copies of war-time news articles which report on the winner of the contest, Mrs. Ruth Karp of Brooklyn, who received the prize from Major General Thomas A. Terry at a Waldorf Astoria ceremony. Surely the best and most appealing provenance we have ever encountered on an item of this type

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
