    D-Day: Allied Parachute Fragment.
Small frame housing a 6 1/4" x 4 1/4" section of camouflage parachute, labeled "Parachute Material From D-Day Invasion of Normandy". According to information provided by the consignor, the item originated through Jon Aragon, a member of the United States Army who was sent over to Normandy on D-Day +12, as part of a rear echelon mop-up operation. He was sent with a detail of soldiers to St. Mere Eglise, a drop zone for a pre-dawn incursion on June 6, 1944. It was there that he discovered some abandoned parachutes. He retrieved several of them and cut them up as souvenirs. Some of these have appeared in the market and match this example in all details.
