    Description

Collection of Thirty-One World War II Original Pencil and Ink Drawings of the American Invasion of Leyte in the Philippines by S.Sgt. B. J. Sweeney, December 1944. The drawings, in a Talent Pocket Art Tablet, are each 8" x 5". Four of the drawings are signed by the artist and most have descriptions on the back, such as: "The first troops to enter the town of Ormoc"; "Amp track crossing Ormoc Bay with wounded, Ormoc pier and sunken Nip barge in background"; "Head and shoulder wounds, a tight fist helps to relieve the pain"; "The Ol' sarge sleeping - as usual"; and, many others. Some pages are detached, but all drawings are very fine. A wonderful, first-hand pictorial account of the battle that brought Leyte and the entire Gulf area under firm Allied control.
