WWI Sixth Division Helmet With Gas Mask and Thermos. Comprising: 1) Model 1917 helmet complete with liner and chinstrap and bearing the red six-pointed star insignia of the 6th Division on the front. The helmet has been hand-painted a medium brown over the original finish. The re-paint appears to be contemporary. The helmet is drilled to accommodate a Wilmer eye shield. 2) WWI gas mask and carrying bag. A rather well-used example with a typed label affixed to the bag which reads: "U.S. Gas Mask Used by Pvt. Alvin Hear[illegible] 45th (Heavy) Coast Artillery, First U.S. Army of Occupation A.E.F. France". 3) Rare vacuum jar (thermos) manufactured by Bartlett Vacuum Jar Company, Belleville, New Jersey. The OD metal can has a tan canvas cover and carrying straps. The thermos is complete and in very good condition.
