    Description

WWI German Aerial Dart (Flechette) With History. A standard flechette of machined steel, measuring 4 ¾" overall. The dart is mounted to a cardboard backing 6 ¾" x 5", captioned by hand in ink: "Aerial arrow Austrian or German? Used in World War I 1915 to destroy cattle. This Arrow dropped on a Soldier while marching, entered his shoulder and before it could be located finally removed from his wrist". Thousands of these aerial darts were used by all sides in WWI, and their individual impact has rarely been reported. This example takes some of the anonymity out of their indiscriminate use. From the collection of Dr. Douglas Harman.
