WWI French Enlisted Pilots' Tunic. A lovely tunic tailored from light blue wool, with four hidden flap pockets, single breasted with seven button front and lined in cotton twill. The buttons are brass with standard flaming grenade motif, and not marked. The collar bears the bullion wire insignia of the aviation branch and the cuffs have two thin black chevrons indicating rank. The upper left sleeve has a small gold wire chevron, presumable a wound stripe. Above the right pocket are two loops for the pilots' wing which is not present. Over the left pocket is a four place, sewn on ribbon bar. One example is missing, but the remaining ribbons include the Croix de Guerre, Great War Commemoration Medal, and a Legion of Honor bar. The uniform is in excellent condition. From the collection of Dr. Douglas Harman.
