Two World World One Posters. You- Buy A Liberty Bond. 30" x 20" Artist: C.R. Macauley. Printed to promote the First Liberty Loan. This is the only First Liberty Loan poster in the entire sale! The loan was conducted in April of 1917, immediately after war had been declared. The country had been given a goal to raise $546,300 and a total of $601,400 was raised! This image prefigures the posters by Pennell and Raleigh. While still slightly cartoon-like in appearance, it conveyed its message with a sense of urgency. Liberty's eyes are wide and deadlocked on the viewer. Normally an unemotional and resolute image, a concerned and even slightly demanding Liberty is very striking and powerful. This poster cannot afford to be left out of any collection! Very fine condition with three minor tears on the bottom border.
See Him Through- Help Us To Help The Boys. 30" x 20" Artist: Burton Rice. Printed for the National Catholic War Council whose duties included promotion of Catholic participation in the war through chaplains, literature, ministering to the troops, as well as lobbying for Catholic interests in Washington D.C. This poster is one of the few printed for the council and asks for help in "helping the boys." As a rare example of religious organizations promoting the war effort, do not miss it! Minor tears top and bottom border, some light damp stains, rippling, would benefit from mounting on linen.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
