    Thomas-Morse Aircraft Corporation Archive, Including Items Associated With Early Test Pilot Frank H. Burnside. Comprising: 1) Original section of painted fabric removed from the wing roundel of a Thomas-Morse S-4 Scout. 9" x 12" section comprising a portion of the white and blue wing roundel. The Thomas-Morse Scout was one of the most widely produced training aircraft in WWI. Excellent condition. 2) Booklet "The Thomas School of Aviation, Bath New York", 12 disbound pages, 9 ½" x 7". A catalog for the Thomas flying school, circa 1914. The brochure reads, in part: "Pupils usually learn to fly in from two to three hours of actual practice in the air...The course of instruction, complete, without additional charges for breakage or bonds to cover machines used in flying for pilot's license, is $250." Disbound, as noted, but in excellent condition. 3) Turnbuckle from a Thomas-Morse S4B Scout. 4 ¾", brass, mounted to a wooden plaque with printed caption. Excellent condition. 4) Thomas-Morse Aircraft Corporation employee badge. 1 ½" x 1 ¼", oval plated metal, pin back with a Bastian Brothers maker's mark. This example stamped "B". 5) Archive of photographs and ephemera associated with Frank H. Burnside, test pilot for Thomas-Morse Aircraft Corporation. Includes four photographs of Burnside, two next to his U.S. Airmail aircraft; and two other earlier shots of Burnside in what appears to be a Thomas Flyer. Burnside worked for Thomas-Morse off and on from 1911 until 1923. A photocopied five page biography of Burnside and several newspaper clippings dealing with him and Thomas-Morse are also included.
