    Description

    Sir George Clausen RA, "Making Guns" Set of Six Original Lithographs, Signed Proofs, each framed, 25" x 20.5" overall, from "The Great War: Britain's Efforts and Ideals". The prints, comprising the series "Making Guns", are titled: Turning a Big Gun, The Furnace, Where the Guns are Made, The Great Hammer, The Radial Crane, and Lifting an Inner Tube. All are dated 1917 and each is signed "George Clausen" in pencil. All are in fine condition. They have not been examined out of the frame.

    Sir George Clausen RA (1852- 1944), was born in London, the son of a decorative artist. Clausen attended the design classes at the South Kensington Schools with great success. He then worked in the studio of Edwin Long RA and subsequently in Paris under Bouguereau and Robert Fleury. Clausen became one of the foremost modern painters of landscape and of peasant life, influenced by the impressionists with whom he shared the view that light is the real subject of art. He was an official War Artist during World War I. This series, "Making Guns", is in the collection of the Tate Gallery and the Imperial War Museum, in London.
