Share in the Victory World War I Poster 30" x 20", Artist: Haskell Coffin. Printed for the War Savings Stamps Drive. Coffin's Joan of Arc poster is a prolific and popular image from WWI. This image, although less recognized is no less superb in its rendering and message. A winged Nike is holding a palm branch as a symbol of victory in the same pose that Haskell's Joan of Arc holds her sword aloft. This image is more ethereal and soft than Joan of Arc, and rightly so since Nike's were meant to represent victory and sensuality. The most famous winged Nike is the Nike of Samothrace, who is considered the finest example of Hellenistic Greek sculpture. Her outstretched wings and pose are almost identical to Haskell's.
The poster is in very fine condition; small tears along left edge and slight soiling.
