Description
Prussian Guard Officers' Pickelhaube. Black lacquered felt body with fiber visors and silver trim. 7½" tall, silver-plated trichter with black and white cock feather plume. The feather plume is obviously for a general's helmet so it has been incorrectly mated to the helmet. Round silver base with four star-head studs. One of the base mounting posts is missing the washer but the nut is still present. The silver front plate is beautifully detailed, complete with a large convex guard star. The plate is mounted to the front of the helmet using two threaded posts, though the securing nuts are absent. There are no additional holes in the front of the body. The helmet is lacking the cockades. The brass, slightly convex chin scales are in excellent condition. The leather sweatband has a small repair but it and the silk lining are in otherwise excellent condition. There are no size stamps, maker's marks or personalized markings visible on the helmet. Though it has a few problems this is still a beautiful example in excellent condition.Auction Info
