Large Bronze Bas Relief Portrait Plaque of Otto von Bismarck - The Iron Chancellor, Circa 1894. 16¼" x 23". This lovely relief portrait of Bismarck in military uniform is constructed of single cast bronze. The detail of certain elements is exceptional , including Bismarck's epaulettes and the wreathe of oak leaves beneath the portrait. In the lower right corner appears the name of the artist, "M. Vordermayer" (Ludwig Vordermayer) and a foundry mark in the lower left corner "Aktien Gesellschaft: Gladenbeck. Berlin". This heavy bronze plaque probably once graced a German government building or office and would be the centerpiece of any collector's "war room" or study.
