    Description

For Home and Country. (Lot of 10) 6-(40" x 30") and 4-(30" x 20"). Artist: Alfred Everett Orr. Most books and collectors sites describe this poster as "common." Although it may be "common" in the sense that there are more around or more were produced, it is by no means a "common" work of art. The poster is a microcosm of what the Liberty Loans stood for. This poster was issued for the fifth and final loan and represents the family for which all the soldiers were fighting. The home front is represented by the mother and child and the war front is depicted by the presence of the helmet and uniformed soldier. This is a masterful juxtaposition of peace and war, a poster that every collector should have!

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
