Eat More Corn, Oats, and Rye Products (Lot of 2) 30" x 20" Artist: L.N. Britton. Printed for the U.S. Food Administration. Gary Borkan says that this poster is, "reminiscent of the German posterist Ludwig Hohlwein." Hohlwein was known for his masterful watercolors. His hand lettering style is mimicked here along with the jagged and chaotic edges of the items of the table.

The idea of conserving food was bolstered by government through a system of coercion and volunteerism. Herbert Hoover, as head of the U.S. Food Administration, preferred to spread his message of "self sacrifice," but he also had the authority to set wheat prices, buy and distribute wheat. Authority and volunteerism coupled together produced results: by 1918, the United States was exporting three times as much breadstuffs and meat as it had before the war.

Condition-Poster 1-Fine; one major tear on bottom edge, some spots of rubbing on lower quadrants.

Poster 2-Superior; dirt stains on edges.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
