    Description

Civilians! (Lot of 3) 33" x 22" Artist: Sidney Reisenberg. Printed for the Jewish Welfare Board; This is the most commonly seen Jewish related poster from WWI. Doughboys, Star of David. Brown and blue. The poster artist is Sidney H. Riesenberg (1885 - 1971), who was born in Chicago, but moved to New York early in his career. He is noted as both an illustrator and painter. He did covers and interior work for such magazines as Harpers, Scribners, Collier's and the Saturday Evening Post . His paintings were mainly western genre works and his original oils are sought after and have been setting record prices at recent auctions. It is thought he reached his peak as an illustrator during WWI, inspired by the war effort. His major works include "Remember The Flag of Liberty" (the famed immigrant 3rd Liberty Loan poster) and the dramatic "Over The Top For You."

Condition (This poster was printed on very low grade stock tan paper, most existing posters are suffering from severe acid deterioration and yellowing)-Poster 1-Good; severe tear on lower edge, right edge is torn and shows major wear, water damage on right edge.

Poster 2-Good; severe cockling from fold memory, water damage on left edge, paper is yellowing badly and is very brittle.

Poster 3-Superior; small amount of cockling from fold memory, dirt residue on edges. For the low grade paper quality these were printed on this poster is in amazing condition; a rare find! *
