World War II: Large Silver Presentation Punch Bowl Given to Admiral William "Bull" Halsey. The impressive punchbowl, 16 inches in diameter and 12.25 inches high, is engraved with a diamond shaped lozenge and the inscription, "Presented to / Admiral Bull Halsey / From His Staff / 1945". In 1945 Halsey, with the rank of Admiral, commanded the United States Navy's Third Fleet. After the war's end, Halsey returned to the United States and on December 11, 1945 took the oath as Fleet Admiral. While few men were allowed to personally call Halsey by his nickname, "Bull", his staff undoubtedly felt safe in presenting their commanding officer with this gift bearing the name that portrayed the man's personality and command style. Some plating loss in the bottom of the bowl and minor tarnishing, else, fine.
