Very Rare Miniature Gettysburg "Relic Tower." Only a handful of these towers have turned up over the years, this being the first one we have had the opportunity to catalog. Unquestionably made by Gettysburg relic guru John Good C. 1900, the piece is as much a charming piece of American folk art as it is a rare Gettysburg Battlefield souvenir. All hand carved from various pieces of wood recovered from the battlefield, with the center section clearly displaying where it was struck by a bullet, which remains imbedded. 12" overall, the front portion displays a pocket knife, above which is the bullet struck section with a Second Corps badge and an elaborate rosette. A typical Civil War brogan is carved on the next section. Surmounted by a tucked wing eagle perched on a ball, about the size of a grape shot, with the eagle's legs and talons actually carved integral with the ball. The adjacent side features a mounted cannon above which is a Fifth Corps badge. The other adjacent side mounts a 12th Corps badge and a 6th Corps badge with the top two tiers marked with an ink stamp "Wheatfield" and "Devils Den". The fourth side bears an ink stamp on the second tier from "Meade's Headquarters". Perfect condition, retaining all of the original crazed varnish finish. A wonderful piece of American folk art, commemorating the greatest land battle ever fought on the American continent, and one of the centerpieces of any Gettysburg collection.
