    Description

Very Nice Regulation U.S. M1840 Medical Staff Officer's Sword 27 3/4" double edge blade, elliptical in cross section, 5/8" wide at the ricasso. Etched for 3/4 of its length with acorns and oakleaves with "United States Medical Staff" central panel on the obverse with maker name" Horstman & Son Philadelphia", and American eagle on the reverse, mostly smooth and gray with minor surface rust at the tip. Regulation form in every detail with the "MS" on the counterguard applied with silver letters. Brass grip excellent with oak leaf and eagle decorative motifs. Brass scabbard with typical cast brass mounts and rings shows a few minor shallow dents. Very nice example of this scarce regulation Civil War sword carried by all medical officers.
