Very Nice Civil War US Lieutenant of Artillery Officer's Uniform, with sash and sword belt. Nine button front with all original eagle A buttons with period Horstmann backmarks. Non functional cuffs, the left with three eagle A buttons and the right with two period General Service buttons and one eagle A button. Stand up collar 1 1/2" high at the back. Double gold bullion 2d Lieutenant of artillery shoulder straps with gold bullion bars on heavily worn red velvet background. Straps showing wear but good sound condition. Excellent period sleeve cut with raw cut edge on the bottom of the skirt. Black polished cotton lining with quilted breast and one breast pocket. White cotton sleeve lining. Tail pockets lined with brown polished cotton. Body with just some tiny scattered moth holes, very minor. Lining excellent and sound, just showing some honest wear. There is a tear and some separation at the back of the collar and the lining directly beneath. The hanging loop clearly reveals in period ink script Lieut with a name but very difficult to decipher. Overall a very nice Civil War US officer's frock coat with the strong possibility of ID. The double thickness red silk sash is 4" wide with some very small scattered snags/holes but generally really excellent sound condition. 9" tassels with wooden cores show some honest wear but also excellent and sound. Sword belt with very fine quality M1851 rectangular officer's eagle plate with medium width tongue and matching numbers on plate and keeper. Black patent leather belt with sword slings and brass sword suspension hook. Long section of the over the shoulder sling excellent, the short section with buckle torn, easily repaired. A very nice Civil War US Artillery officer's uniform set.
