    Description

The finest M1816/22 musket in the original flintlock configuration we've ever catalogued

Very Fine Condition, Rare Contract, U.S. M1816/22 .69 Caliber Smoothbore Flintlock Musket, R. & J. D. Johnson, 1832. All metal smooth retaining 90% of the original acid brown finish, mixing with brown patina, just a couple of minor mars near the breech, not affecting value. Mechanically perfect, perfect bore, with deep crisp markings including 1832 tang date and proofs. Wood excellent+ with rich patina and very sharp, with inspectors' cartouches just forward of the butt plate tang and adjacent to lock bolt plate. Complete and original in every respect, completely untouched. With only 600 guns delivered on this contract there are but a handful of specimens, in this superb original flintlock configuration, extant. A very rare U.S. martial.
