    U.S. Model 1850 Foot Officers' Presentation Sword 144th NY Infantry.
    30" slightly curved blade, etched on either side with panoplies of arms and foliate scroll designs, no maker's mark. Brass hilt with plain reverse counter-guard and obverse counter-guard with pierced design of branches and scrolls. Wire-wrapped fish skin grips. Black leather scabbard with brass mountings. Scabbard leather has wear, the blade fine save for the last 2.5" which has pitting. The sword was presented to Lieutenant John Clark of the 144th NY Infantry. On the top hanger of the scabbard it reads "Presented to Lieu't John Clark Co. H 144th Regt". The regiment saw much action in South Carolina including Morris Island, Fort Wagner, John's Island and Honey Hill. A fine presentation sword.
