    U.S. M1842 .69 Caliber Smoothbore Percussion Musket, Harpers Ferry/ 1848, with Period ID to Martin H. Markle, 120th New York Vol. Inf. Metal overall smooth and light gray, just some very light pitting in the breech/ bolster area and some light scattered surface rust. Mechanically fine, crisp markings, including breech proofs. Wood smooth with even patina, the buttstock showing a beautiful burl grain Complete and original in every respect. Neatly die stamped, in 1/8" high letters, on lock bolt plate "W. H. Markle". Absolutely period and showing smooth even wear. Markle enlisted in the 120th NY on July 28, 1862, and served with the regiment throughout its term of service, being mustered out June 3, 1865. The regiment was engaged at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Hatcher's Run, and numerous other actions, losing a total of 243 men killed or mortally wounded. Accompanied by a complete set of records. Nice ID to a true "fighting" regiment.
