Important Large U.S.S. Maine Bronze Memorial Plaque Made From Metal Recovered From The Ship. Bronze plaque 17 ½" X 13", in soft high relief, pictures the Maine sinking below the waves at Havana Harbor as the goddess Columbia solemnly holds a large shield marked "Patriotism and Devotion". A cast inscription reads: "U.S.S. Maine / Destroyed in Havana Harbor / February 15, 1898". Finally, cast at the base: "This Tablet is Cast From Metal Recovered From the U.S.S. Maine." The reverse is stamped with the name of the sculptor, Charles Heck, the foundry, Jno. Williams, Inc. Bronze Foundry, New York, date, 1913 and serial number 920. The consignor states that this example was originally displayed at the Veterans Memorial Building in Redwood City, California, on San Francisco Bay, where Spanish-American War veterans held monthly meetings. It was given to the consignor in 1963 by one of the last surviving Spanish-American War veterans when they were closing down their space in the building. This example has a wonderful weathered patina due to the decades of fog from the San Francisco Bay. Very good condition with a superb history.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
