Exceptional quality in wonderful condition

Untouched, Relief-Carved, French Belt Pistol, Circa 1760. 14.5" overall with 8.5", .62 caliber smoothbore barrel. The barrel is slightly flared at the muzzle, multifaceted for 3.5" from the breech, and decorated overall with gold filled engraving including scrolls, arms panoply and a flaming bomb with lightning bolts. Barrel smooth with dark patina and retaining 80% of the original gilt/ gold decoration. There is a crown proofmark visible on the left side of the barrel. The gun is entirely iron mounted with sculpted and engraved details on all parts. The butt cap with extensions to the relief carved detail behind the lock. Wood excellent with dark, smooth patina, no cracks, chips or breaks. Exquisite relief carved floral and scroll work at the barrel tang, forward of the trigger guard and at the rear ramrod pipe, also nicely carved molding along the ramrod channel. The lock is slightly convex, also with engraved decoration. Mechanically fine with very good bore. Original ebony ramrod with iron tip and slotted iron cleaning ferrule at the base. A very pretty eighteenth century Continental pistol in very fine condition.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
