The finest carved ivory grip we've encountered.

Silver Mounted French Hunting Sword/ Hanger, Circa 1760. The unique blade decorations imply that it was possibly produced for Ottoman royalty. 28" overall, the 22¼" blade with a wide shallow fuller running open to the tip. Decorated for half its length with fire blue, 70% of which remains. Embellished with Ottoman symbols including crescents, cufic symbols, and a bust portrait of a turbaned male figure. Blade fine, retaining traces of the original gilt with just some minor surface rust along the edge and a small patch of pitting at the tip. One piece hollow silver cross guard with scroll like quillons, and silver chain guard. The magnificent one piece carved ivory grip, in the form of an eaglehead, is delineated with feathers on the crown, exhibiting exceptionally fine workmanship. The open beak reveals a red dyed tongue. Silver side straps and elaborate silver ferrule at the base. Grip very fine with nice patina and just some minor age cracks but very sound. Wooden scabbard covered with embossed maroon Moroccan leather. Elaborately fluted, scroll edged, silver mounts with two carrying rings and a frog stud. Scabbard about perfect, just one minor bend on the tip of the lower mount. A striking sword, clearly produced for a patron of singular importance.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
