Description

Miniature Silk Copy of the Betsy Ross 13 Star Flag Handcrafted by her Great Grand Daughter C. 1900. 5 1/2" X 10 1/4" with 1/2" white silk hoist which is inscribed in ink script, doubtless in her hand, "Made by Sarah M. Wilson Great Granddaughter of Betsy Ross." All exquisitely hand stitched and in pristine condition.
Rachel Albright, Ross's grand daughter and Sarah Wilson, her great grand daughter, hand fabricated a limited number of these flags in the East Wing of Independence Hall C. 1900 - 1910, often gifting them to benefactors of the American Flag House and Betsy Ross Memorial Association. Only a small percentage of the flags were actually signed, making them quite rare, with this being an exceptional example. Nicely mounted and framed C. 1950 and a wonderful piece of historic Americana, with direct lineal association to the first 'stars and stripes'.

    Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
