Matched Pair of European .75 Caliber Flintlock Naval Belt Pistols, Circa 1760. 14" overall with pin fastened 8.25" octagon to round barrels with line engraving at the stepdown. The only visible markings are a large hand engraved shaded letter "A" on each barrel tang. All brass mountings, with the exception of the lock bolt plate which is iron and mounts a 5.75" belt hook that flares slightly at the tip. Incised line decoration on the butt caps and ramrod pipes. Butt caps affixed with a large round head screw at the bottom. Convex faced locks, one gun missing the jaw and screw, one front ramrod ferrule replaced, obviously long ago, and both ramrods correct replacements, else the guns are complete and original in every respect and in fine condition. All metal smooth and gray with absolutely no rust or pitting. Furniture about perfect with just a few dents on the ramrod pipes. Wood really excellent, smooth with nice patina, the only damage being a couple of small chips by the butt cap on the right side on one gun. A very rare pair of mid eighteenth century military pistols in wonderful condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
