Description

    Massive, Damascus Blade, Silver Mounted French Hunting Sword,.Circa 1760. Slightly curved 23½" blade with 6" false edge, 1 5/8" wide at the hilt. Blade displays exceptional Damascus pattern and is very fine with just a few tiny areas of very light pitting. The ivory grip displays a rudimentary pistol grip form and is bound on all sides by engraved silver straps. Heavy S shaped guard and grip ferrule with matching chaised/ engraved decoration. Silver chain guard and engraved silver cover on the blade tang. Grip decorated on both sides with engraved silver urns with flowers, and silver rosettes. Half of the top rosette is missing on the reverse side, otherwise the grip is about perfect, the ivory with a rich mellow age patina. There is no scabbard. Rare form in very desirable condition.
