Description

Magnificent Silesian Wheelock Pistol C. 1620. Incredible workmanship, superb condition. All metal is smooth and clean, The overall feel of the gun, including the slender trigger guard and small butt area give the impression that it was meant for use by a smaller person, very likely a child. 29" overall with deeply rifled .52 caliber octagonal barrel that is slightly flared at the muzzle. Lock with finest workmanship and decorative engraving. The stock is covered with hundreds of inlays of ivory, mother of pearl, and multicolored wood. The themes depicted are dogs and rabbits, serpents, Griffins, and other classical figures, as well as human figures on the underside of the buttstock/ cheekpiece and the charming detail of a squirrel standing on a boot on the ivory butt plate. One tiny inlay missing on the cheekside of the butt and one small chip on the ivory plaque at the cheekpiece, else 100% intact. There is also the likelihood the front ivory ramrod ferrule is replaced. Overall a monumental exercise in fine quality workmanship in magnificent condition.
