Exquisite Quality, Relief-Carved, French/ Belgian Flintlock Belt Pistol, Circa 1760. 12½" overall with 7¼" .60 caliber smoothbore barrel. Barrel retains most of a period fire blue finish and is octagonal to 3¼" from the breech, then turned to round with a cannon turned muzzle. Displays scroll engraving at breech and on tang. All brass furniture including elaborately scroll and floral engraved lock bolt plate and butt cap. Engraving also on the trigger guard bow and tail of the rear ramrod pipe. Scroll engraving on hammer and lockplate, which is signed "H. Meuneir/ A Liege". All metal very fine with absolutely no rust or pitting, untouched. Nicely grained European walnut stock with relief carved panel around the ramrod channel terminating in a stylized fleur de lis at the back pipe. The lock, trigger guard and lock bolt plate all sit on relief carved panels, and there is a relief carved panel at the tang terminating in the same stylized fleur de lis. Mechanically perfect and retains the original bone tipped ramrod. The wood exhibits a rich smooth patina, with a line crack (no loss) at the lower extremity of the butt, and one small, ¼" x ¾", old, expertly replaced, sliver below the lock bolt plate, else very fine. A very pretty pistol exhibiting superior quality workmanship throughout.
