Exceptional Condition Revolutionary War Period Brass Mounted French M1763 Cavalry F/L Pistol. 15¾" overall with 9" .75 caliber smoothbore round barrel. Barrel bears the date mark at the breech 3 76. All metal smooth and gray, just some minor pitting at the touch hole. The gun remains in its original flintlock configuration with the lock bearing the engraved script markings of the Charleville Arsenal. Brass furniture about perfect, just a few minor dents from obvious use. Stock excellent with nice dark patina and what appears to be an old coat of varnish. Just a couple of dents and a very minor 1" hairline, with no loss, on the underside of the forestock at the juncture with the nosepiece. Original iron ramrod. A very scarce gun in this superb condition, and especially desirable with a date of manufacture at the commencement of the American Revolution.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
